Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a tiny, sleepy town. People unfamiliar with the term tend to think it's an island that's west of Montreal however, the West Island is home to everything from the Lachine city. Lachine west. Amanda Brugel is said to have been born on West Island. However, it's not the case. Brugel lived in Courtice, just outside of Oshawa. Her initial ambition was to become an actress, however, after a rapid expansion, she and her partner weren't able to dance with her. In an article in The Toronto Star she admitted In heels I'm 6 feet 1 inch. After I outgrew the male dancers, I decided to quit. A lot of former dancers go on to act. In the case of Brugel it was the guidance from her drama teacher at high school that led her to the path she wanted. Teacher who recommended she try to get a role for school's annual play. She was able to audition and be cast as Anne of Green Gables. She was given an Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to attend York University's Theatre Program, where she graduated from the program in 2000, earning a degree of Bachelor's in Fine Arts. Her career spans 20 years and she has been in over 60 productions, both on big screens and on smaller ones. Her most recognizable role was the one of Rita (pictured below) in the television show The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the sole Canadian actor on the show in Season 1 and was only seen on occasion.
